You probably already know today is Martin Luther King Day (because school’s out, yay!) It’s also the King Day of Service, a great time to do something good for our world. I read that Dr. King said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?”
That’s an amazing question. How would you answer it?
I want to help the people who survived the earthquake in Haiti. And I found some girls who’ve already started — they’re selling hot chocolate to raise money and awareness. Check it out!
These girls are definitely Honorary Fairy Godmothers.
I know, I know — we’re just kids, so there’s not much we can do, right? WRONG! There’s a ton we can do to raise money, awareness and energy for Haiti. Here’s a great example. A bunch of kids in Califa are taking part in “Hats for Haiti” day to raise money at their schools. It’s a really simple, really cool idea: wear a hat, give a dollar. But since there’s eighty thousand kids, those dollars will really add up.
So get inspired, get creative, then get involved! ‘Cause we’re Fairy Godmothers, right? RIGHT! Here are some ideas for you and your Local Lineage:
~ your own “Hats for Haiti” day at your school
~ your own hot chocolate sale!
~ craft sale (get DIY ideas right here)
~ bake sale
~ plant sale
~ car wash
~ fashion show
~ talent show or play
~ raise awareness (blog, email or make posters)
~ donate, or ask friends and family to donate
The fastest way to donate is to ask your parents to give $10 to the Red Cross by texting “HAITI” to “90999”. It gets put on their phone bill. You can look here to find other charities accepting donations.
Write me and tell me what you decided to do!
xoxo
