Kerka’s Animal Spirit: A Spirikin

Dear Dreamers:

I am thrilled that the Kirkus reviewer likes Kerka’s Book! I know there are many girls like Kerka out there waiting to read her story. You have only had a small taste of Kerka from Birdie’s story, but you know she is a completely differnet kind of girl.

I wrote about Kerka from my memories of being a dancer at that same age (13). I created Kalis, a martial art/dance that uses colorful bejeweled sticks and has steps like the X Sweep and the Zephyr. In my mind it is more dance than fighting, but I also wanted girls to be able to do their own fighting with Aventurine “powers” when they needed it.

Another fun secret in Kerka’s book is the idea that every girl has an animal spirit called a Spirikin. Do you have an animal spirit? (You can have more than one.) Maybe you like cats a lot or you have a certain animal picture or stuffed animals around your room? Leave a comment to this post – tell me about your Spirikin and how you figured it out.

See you in Aventurine!
Jan

  1. I’m going to make a kalis stick, and I am wondering if they are all orange or if some are other colors, and can you post more about the differnet dance moves? I really love this website! Oh and another question: I want to know more about earning wisdoms. I want to start getting wisdom cars, I have 2 so far, do I print them when I have done a mission? What ARE the missions?

  2. Hi, Ellen! Greengirl here, and I am *all about* Wisdoms! But first, your Kalis stick question. From what I’ve heard, the Kalis sticks grow from special willow trees in the mountain caves of the Stone Fairies. Each one is a different color and totally unique. You’ll find out all about them when Kerka’s book comes out.

Now for the Wisdoms part! Check out the Aventurpedia entry on Wisdoms. If you want to go on Wisdom Acts, you’re in the right place! Just look for blog entries in the Wisdom Acts category. They are the same thing as missions. When you complete a Wisdom Act, you earn its Wisdom and get its card. All of the Wisdom Acts right now are for the Arbor Lineage that Birdie belongs to — so they’re all about the green world. Pretty soon I think there will be a whole lot more Wisdom Acts to try, and a lot more cards. Stay tuned!
